More horsepower and torque at lower rpm is a highlight of the advantages of the 2008 Subaru WRX over its predecessors. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder now makes 224 horsepower and 226 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,800 rpm (as opposed to 3,600 rpm before). It is also 50 percent lighter than the previous powerplant.
Thanks to the 3.7-inch longer wheelbase, the 2008 Impreza WRX boasts an improved ride, more interior space, increased utility, crisper handling, and improved crashworthiness. The engine is also placed lower in the chassis, lowering the center of gravity and improving agility.
Two body styles are available, a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan. A new aero kit telegraphs the rally car heritage of the WRX models. The five-door features a sweeping single curve roofline that flows into a rear spoiler. The five-door also features a rear underbody diffuser and a single chrome exhaust tip. The four-door features dual-chrome exhaust tips and a trunk spoiler.
Both designs showcase touches like the curved fog lamps and an inward sweeping chrome embellishment that flow the grille design into the bumper. Clear rear lenses for the taillight assembly grace the five-door. The new logo caps the grille of both body styles.
