The Chevrolet Volt is an electric vehicle with extended range. The four-passenger Volt is designed to provide the benefits of an electric vehicle without the range limitations associated with other electric vehicles in the market.
Chevrolet Volt introduces two new colors -- Ashen Gray Metallic and Brownstowne Metallic for the 2014 model year -- and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The Chevrolet Volt is not a hybrid. It is a one-of-a-kind, all-electrically driven vehicle designed and engineered to operate in all climates. Powered by GM's revolutionary Voltec propulsion system, it consists of a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric drive unit.
The Chevrolet Volt allows gas-free driving for an EPA-estimated 38 miles, depending on terrain, driving techniques and temperature. A 1.4L gasoline-powered engine extends the range up to an additional 344 miles on a full tank of fuel by operating the vehicle's electric drive system until the car can be plugged in and recharged or refueled. Chevrolet offers an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty on the Volt's lithium-ion battery.
The 2014 Chevrolet Volt has a "Hold Mode" that allows owners to direct when the Volt uses its gas generator. This feature helps save money because owners who mix city and highway driving can save the battery charge for city travel, where the Volt's EV mode operates most efficiently.
The Volt continues to be the best selling plug-in vehicle in America and is attracting new buyers to the Chevrolet brand. More than 70 percent of Volt buyers are new to General Motors.
