Sierra heavy-duties are offered in a range of 2500HD (three-quarter-ton) and 3500HD (one-ton) models and are available in WT, SLE and SLT trim. All-new for 2007, the Sierra pickups roll into 2008 with minor refinements and enhancements.
XM Satellite Radio is now standard on all models, 17-inch wheels are standard on Dually models, a power-adjustable driver seat comes on Regular Cab models with a bench seat, and two new paint colors -- Dark Crimson Metallic and Sonoma Red Metallic -- are available to grace their exteriors.
The standard engine is a 6.0-liter gas V-8 with variable valve timing. It is rated at 353 horsepower and 373 lb.-ft. of torque on single rear-wheel configurations (up to 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating). Variable valve timing helps improve performance and fuel economy. The diesel offering is a Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel, rated at 365 horsepower and 660 lb.-ft. of torque.
Both engines choices are paired with six-speed automatic transmissions. Sierra heavy-duty trucks offer a trailer hitch receiver platform that enables the trucks to pull 13,000 pounds with conventional trailers. Trucks with fifth-wheel hitches can tow up to 16,700 pounds when properly equipped. All GMC Sierra heavy-duty models are available with an integrated trailer brake controller.
